alright, I'm not one for setting rules for things but as more people make characters for the RP boards we need a little bit of organization to keep it from become a clusterf**k.
1.) Have fun! (duh) 2.) try to keep things in an actual RP thread IC (in character) a bunch of OOC posts gets everything junked up and it's hard to read from post to post. 3.) I'm usually against setting an actual word min for a post so let's just say a decent paragraph and we'll call it square. Remember, the more you post the easier it is for the the next person to post more. 4.) Don't post out of order. This way it doesn't get confusing to read and people know when they're up to post. Ex. I post, then Cal posts, then Hrod posts and it repeats
more well be added if need be

I'm not a big fan of 4, I'm not sure why order matters.

I suspect the idea is to avoid having three people in a room together, and two of them have a six hour conversation while the third licks the windows because his player's not around to be online during the day =P

That was what I was going to say, it keeps everyone involved even if they can't be online as often as the others. Though I rather like 'licks the windows' .

So how is post order going to be determined? In the first post do the participants and post order get determined? How would someone join a thread in progress?
@ wxcougar: I'm not sure how post order will help people who are online less. Are you worried about being "left behind" in a conversation?
I am new to online roleplay, if "licks windows" has some common meaning, please let me know.

It was a euphamisim for standing idly by. Think of it like initiative order, your spot in the intiative is wherever you stepped in at, and it will rotate accordingly. It helps people who are online less because the thread isn't advancing huge amounts when they're not around since everyone is politely waiting on them. Sure, it slows things down a bit, but it makes it easier for people to be involved.

Well I certainly don't want to make the RP section less inviting. I'll do my best to observe posting order then.

It's best if you blame me for everything, then you can pelt me with rotten food and boo me - and make me stronger. *Flexes*

Pelt you with rotten food? It's punishment, not dinner. I know how you half-orcs eat.

I have no worries myself of being left behind because I happen to be online a lot. I was speaking more about what others might think. As to a strict order, I am not much of a fan of it perse. Personally I would be fine with just being aware of all those involved in a scene and be accomodating without leaving someone in the dust or having the thread stand too idle. Multi scene in one thread with an eventual combination as I am foreseeing in the one rp I have no issue with. I was figuring on establishing location and when others start arriving, fall into place with them. If any of that made sense? My rp background is in live chat or messageboard like this. .

@ wxcougar: It's very good to look at a situation from every angle, I'm glad you're willing to put in a word for those who don't share your point of view.
Making a combined post with all of the various post threaded together would be really cool, although it would take a considerable amount of effort IMO. By the way, does a thread come to an end when all of the participants agree or is there some other mechanic to it?

It's normally upon agreement/end of a story arc, yes. Never feel bad about asking questions either, Chai - learning is always a good thing.

The places I've rp'd in its usually by consensus of those involved for a thread to come to an end. Though I've had a few occasions where a thread was slowly winding down and then someone else comes by with another idea that breathes life into the old thread and it goes off again. Sometimes that is a lot of fun.
