I just read the latest entry. I have to say I am very enticed! Looking forward to seeing some of this. It looks (too good to be true) fantastic way of allowing, but at the same time allowing the game to police itself.
I have to say - I like the idea of being a bounty hunter!
The earlier blog about having to transport/protect rare resources etc, sounds like a majorly exciting aspect of the game.

With each new blog post we should see more excited and larger numbers of people flocking to Pathfinder Online, and to join guilds like ours. With the last post we saw a slight bump in foraging and crafting members, so with this one I expect to see a slight bump in martial characters. Although our non-aggression stance may steer some of them away.

We've got a nice balanced approach, I think, to martial matters that actually looks like it lines up very well with the vision Dancey is casting. If we can get some folks propping us up there (Hrod, go beat the bushes!) it could actually net us even more once folks see the synchronization.

How do y'all feel about the role Paladins will fit into this system?

We don't really know the role that paladins will play. We do know what Ryan wants paladins to play. We know he wants them to be more adventurers who kill evil monsters, not humanoids so much. But they haven't been coded yet.
I think its a little restrictive, but it is also the way paladins should think, in my opinion. They go on quests, not hunting humans as the sheriff.

I personally feel that it almost appears that paladins are being regulated to PvE only for fear of taking hits to their alignment, but I concur it is early, and we need to take a wait and see approach.

They also haven't outlined any ways to gain alignment bonuses. They have only talked about ways to get negative alignment. It should be just as easy to get positive alignment as negative.

I wouldn't get worked up about that (yet); Remember that this has all along been sold as a "class-less" characters system - so a traditional "paladin" may be a moot point. That being said - Paladins shouldn't (IMO) be bent on PvP anyways - with the exception of true heinous PCs - but with low Reputation that such miscreants will have, it shouldn't hit the rep/alignment hard at all. Many times the blog points out that attacking someone undeservedly is where the hit will come. Playing a "paladin" as it should be, means you shouldn't be attacking players unless they absolutely deserve it. Furthermore it appears that being the attacked (aka self-defense) will not flag you as a killer. Meaning that the role of a paladin as a protector of the innocent will still hold true. They will be called on against players to defend their society, their people, their companions, and the meek. All things that paladins are renown for doing. |

It should be just as easy to get positive alignment as negative. I don't believe that's a fair assessment. We all know it's easier to fall from grace than it is to ascend the pits. Another way said: 1 ah-crap wipes out 10 Atta-boys! |

Well, not just as easy, but it shouldn't be something unattainable if you make a couple mistakes. If you are a paladin that does something "heinous" should be able to get their alignment back to LG in a week or 2 of steady gaming.

(and most likely will be a way to work at it - but it shouldn't be easy - especially in a "game" where real-world consequences for actions are irrelevant). I remember Neverwinter Nights 2 had a shifting alignment system. To support my arguement, it took a lot of quests, and turning down payments for them, and doing altruistic things to return lost points. On the other hand, it was quite easy to go evil - just start slaughtering townsfolk or robbing people. |

For my part, I'm in favor of the approach that discourages Good characters from killing. I'm an objective moralist kind of guy, even in real life (I'm the crazy guy that started the Civil Religious Discussion thread over at Paizo years ago that's still going). Killing a character is never Good, from my perspective, even when the character in question is Evil. There is no justification, no argument, that changes that moral state. It may be beneficial, it may be lawful, but it's never Good.

Ending a creature's life is never Good. It may be Neutral, at best (carnivore kills prey for food--that's Neutral), but more often in the context of what I see in RPG's I'd classify it as Evil. The "kill everything and take the stuff; they're the bad guys so it doesn't matter" mentality has numbed people to the concept that taking a life has meaning.
Now, I eat meat (love me some tasty venison), so I'm not some hippy herbivore or some such. I do however have very strong feelings on how gaming/entertainment has really warped too many peoples' sense of right and wrong.
