A recent post from Stephen Cheney
Research wizard is pretty close to what I'd love to do, so I'm hoping this system gets expanded. Hopefully we can even "learn" spells so we can craft entirely customized spellbooks, rather than just breaking them down and rearranging them.

Hopefully we can even "learn" spells so we can craft entirely customized spellbooks, rather than just breaking them down and rearranging them. This exactly! My alt (Gromovoii Malchikh) is planned to be a very utility/non-combat oriented wizard, but will wait until Kobolds get released. I don't think we'll get to do spell creation, but I'd love to see KoTC produces spell-books as an export item.

Well, the current leading plan for Dario is a more scholar approach, with some item enchantment, so this is perfect. I wasn't thinking so much spell creation in terms of making new spells, so much as "learning" some spells so I don't have to salvage them out of an existing spellbook, but rather I can use raw mats to scribe them into a spellbook.
Example:
I have two spellbooks. One with Magic Missile, Minor Image, Shocking Grasp, and Phantasmal Killer. The other with Acid Orb, Arcane Lock, Knock, and Detect Magic.
With the system as described, I can disassmble those spellbooks to get each of those as independent spells that don't inherently do anything, but can be used to craft another spellbook in a new combination.
Instead, I also have worked with Fireball and Ray of Enfeeblement enough that I can use ink and parchment and other raw materials to create those spells, and then slot them into the new spellbook instead. Less creating a new spell, and more scribing one from memory.

I'd love for this to be a thing. Or, alternatively, to be able to spend time (Spellcraft check?) scribing spells without destroying the original spellbooks. For example, I'd like us to maintain a library of spellbooks AND to build our own spellbooks for easy-finding - I don't want to have to browse through fifteen books when I can just open of Fire Evocation I-III and find all my first-third level fire evocation spells (or whatever). I think this would be a good guild project, assembling and maintaining a library of spellbooks and offering the creation of custom spellbooks as a service.

I'd be happy to oversee that library if it's a possibility =P

I think that would be a great idea. Having a dedicated main running the library is better than me using my alt, obviously. Plus, I'm going to be busy marshaling troops and diplomacy'ing with Hroderich, and we need powerful wizards to save me when I screw up.

You're gonna have to maintain all of our texts on warfare, tactics, mining, hunting, making pots, etc too...

Well, yes, librarian. That would probably also leave me in charge of maintaining archives of official company records and policies.

You might want to recruit helpers... (IC I'd help as Grom, of course, and I'm glad to lend a hand OOC for wikis and such) Speaking of which you might want to hook up with The Seventh Veil as a scribe. paizo.com/threads/rzs2nnqt?Chartered-Company-The-Seventh-Veil They're doing an in-game wiki (describing all kinds of things that happen in the game world) and an OOC wiki (for mechanics and such) - if that interests you (or anyone else!) I highly recommend hooking up with their team. I'm active on their boards as a diplomat and we've established solid friendly relations with them - I think we should expand on that. If I had more time or a second me, I'd sign up for sure. One thing I've talked about with Nihimon (one of their major members and very, very active and helpful member of the community) is having a branch of TSV in any settlement we control. Would you be interested in working alongside them, maybe hosting them in our own grand library (or whatever you decide to call it, it's probably going to be your baby!)?

That sounds like a great idea. I'll have to coordinate with them.

They've got application instructions on their forums for becoming a scribe. Great community (and the second largest guild so far in PFO), and we'll probably work with them a lot in-game since our goals overlap.
