When you become exalted, does it say who exalted you, or does it just raise your karma? What is the karma for, just a popularity guage?

I'm not sure about Proboards specifically, but on most when you're upvoted, it doesn't say who by, and it's generally just a measure of your helpfulness and reputation on the forums.

As it was explained to me it is a lot like the 'Like' on Facebook. If you like how a person is contributing, you can exalt them and I raises their Karma. Someone who is misbehaving and being mean etc you can smite and the board moderators can then see by looking at the Karma who is being a problem and can address it with them.

Generally, the higher the Karma, the more experienced/helpful the commentor. Negative Karma is a bad sign.
