Ok so now, we've begun to discuss what to CALL the settlement, and how we will organize it and everything, but have we discussed WHERE we want to put our settlement? I don't know exactly how that process is going to work but I think having a few target areas picked out ahead of time might be an advantage. There is this link docs.google.com/file/d/0B7h2s0ihodY9OEdPWFBDTTZDS00/editUnofficial PFOL Map showing everything we currently know about the land that is going to eventually be up for claim at some point. I assume we will be able to access most of this by the time the official "Product" goes live etc.

We will have members in earlier betas who will be able to scout out good sites. Looking at a map might be good at places for them to scout out the areas, though. Even at the beta that most of us can begin at, we won't be able to build settlements right away so we'll have time to scout out areas that look good. There's no reason to decide now.

We're missing a fairly vital piece of information that I think is required to discuss location. They've announced that various settlement sites will have different "base modifiers" to the various Development Indices of a settlement. Rather than discussing actual location, it might be valuable to begin considering what qualities we may want to emphasize. You Can Live In Grace and Comfort has some basic information on the effects of the various DIs.

Now that picking a location is nearly upon us, I thought it might be time to resurrect this topic.

As a refresher for those that didn't want to wade through the previous 8 pages the front runners were:
Ympyra (cept I don't have the alt + thingie memorized) Mirivosk Miranor Veramere Establishing our own nomenclature that can encompass future expansions, the first of which being something like Vosk Miranor

I'm going to pop in again as say that I'm strongly in favor of our name being simple, distinct, easy to remember, and easy to say. Most of the suggestions thus far look to me like just random collections of syllables that have no real meaning and don't stick in the mind. I would almost say a poetic name in English would be preferable.
Endless Peak Keeper's Pass Circle's Glade Resplendent Mountain Ring's Gate Keeper's Santuary
Just throwing stuff out there.

You do make a good point Hark.
For examples of existing settlement names, the settlement TEO is creating at AD is called Brighthaven, while the settlement that T7V is creating at AB is called Phaeros. I also believe the settlement at H for the Xelian empire will be Callambea.
It's also quite possible we can pick our name based on which of the hexes we do go with.

I am all for a simple name fitting whatever location we may end up in (if any). Ideally it would also be consistent with our general theme.
I also assume that GW will veto any name they do not deem lore appropriate so I assume the whole naming thing to be a separate sideshow after the landrush has been finalized.

Like all good revelations, today whil'st using the restroom the name "Prosperity" popped into my head. It's common English, thematic to our settlement ideals, and gives a solid hint at what kind of citizens will inhabit the Town. On top of that, a quick googlefu reveals that no historical or fictional cities that share the name, matching the GW naming policy.
