My main concern with the initiate rank (as a separate rank within the guild structure) is that it creates the need to differentiate between initiates and keepers.
The question for me is what does it take to become a full power member of the Circle. I would see this question culminating to the voting rights: full powered members should have full voting rights while "prospective" members should not.
I am not comfortable with the idea of granting full voting rights after passing a 3-6 day initiation. This would (in my opinion) make us too vulnerable to mass infiltration.
"Initiate" rank could for example consist of just what Bristol said: only a formal addition to the guild roster and access to the guild chat. This way achieving the "keeper" status could remain meaningful even without voting rights being attached to it, as it would grant you access to guild resources, forums, VOIP etc.

Dare, it is certainly something that we have noticed, but it is still good for you to call it to attention. The thing you read in this thread was the beginnings of a more complete charter and revised proposal that we are working on right now. We haven't posted ours yet, but you can read the others and join in on the discussion here: www.keepersofthecircle.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gd&action=display&thread=117
