It is KotC's idea, if you reach out to several other Settlements, and find 5 others to host the regionals, I'd say you stand in fair light for offering to hold the year end Grand Tournament, without taking alignment in to play. Also, your non-aggression stance should serve you well as being a Neutral site for even Evil aligned CCs to participate.

Now that approach I think could work. I believe we'd want to reach out to Evil and Good to "prove" our intent, so asking Shadowhaven to host could be a good approach. If we could get the Empyrean Order, Seventh Veil, and maybe Les Compagnons (a French-based group), Knights of the Crusader Road, or Mystical Awakening that would be a spread across alignments, interests, etc.

I would love to have some kind of Grand Tourney in our Settlement. I have been doing research (yes, its on Wikipedia so its a stretch to call it research) on Medieval tournaments and think these events would be good for a Tournament and give it a flavor of the River Kingdoms. All of this is subject to change due to technical issues. Mounted combat will probably not be available right away, and the mechanics of duels is still up in the air (if it will even exists). If there is no dueling mechanic contestants will just have to be on their honor not to attempt to kill their opponent (just like in real life).
As the days of the Tournament arrive contestants (and others) from other settlements will arrive. As they do, the contestants from the home team will be camped out at the gate and will challenge all incoming contestants to a duel. This was called in European Middle Ages as the Passage of Arms. If the duel is accepted then the incoming contestant will gain reputation (we will have to stock up on reputation to be able to do this, maybe not feasible).
A mock fortress of some kind (a mining shack) could be built in game and then swarms of enemies will come flocking to it and one contestant must fight off the swarms of enemies. In Franco-Europe it was called Behourd. This is doable in game, but there is less control of death if we use monsters, but it would be harder to find people willing to be the horde.
Archery - Hit a target bullseye... kill a certain amount of monsters like in the Behourd above.
Jousting... we all know the joust. Two men on horseback tilting at eachother with lances. Attempting to either unhorse eachother or break lances. The mechanics of this will be up in the air until mounted combat is implemented, and until we know more about weapon durability.
Quintain - Jousting games with rings or a dummy with a shield. Same as above, we won't know until mounted combat is implemented.
The thing people went to Tournaments for in the Middle Ages was the Melee. I have two different melees in mind. The Melee, where the contestants are split up into teams and one team or the other wins. Grand Melee, where it is a complete free-for-all and only one winner.

We should add archery to this too

I we want some assistance in the planning/ideas, the d20 Tournaments, Fairs, and Taverns was a fabulous little PDF for handling things like this. Beyond any usefulness here, it was just a really handy doc for building interesting side (or even main) events for a TTRPG. I'll see if I can dig my old copy up from the file archives...For any interested, it looks like backers of the Rebuilding EN World kickstarter will get the updated Pathfinder version of this book.

like I said above (maybe it got lost in all my words), but even if there's no mechanical means to have a deathless duel, it doesn't mean we can't have duels or tournaments. It just means that people will have to be on their honor not to kill the others.

Or you allow people willing to risk death to participate in some duels. But you were right, above, in saying that it was on their honor in real life equivalents.

There is real interest in this idea amongst the community at large. Since GW is willing to listen to us and things we'd like in-game, perhaps we should ask for things like archery butts, tourney fields, Non-lethal duels(have it only available on a tournament field for instance), quintains for when mounted combat is intro'd, etc.
Just a thought, but I think we could pro-actively Crowdforge this idea.

My impression is that death has no consequences other than a looting possibility and maybe some walking.
If that is true just make sure the tourney is near one of those soul-bound points and just prevent looting.
Alternatively at higher levels resurrection by a cleric without any detrimental effects may be a possibility.
I have a LG module I wrote for the Ratik region some years back that has a medieval fair and tournament in it, I might see if I can dig it up and have a read back though it.

The real issues with it are alignment and flagging. Which Ryan has already alluded to introducing some "I waive my flag rights" option.

I have extended some invitations to discuss here to various groups so we can work on assembling a larger base that's consolidated in support of the overall concept (we don't have to nail down all details--that would take longer).

It is my hope that each Host Settlement has the same 3 games that everyone has, but then has 1 or 2 games that are different than the other settlements. We don't want to make each one too big though. Maybe 5 games is too much?
